Weed control
in young beetroots
Betanal Flow is a selective post-emergence herbicide for the control of weeds in young beet crops and silverbeet. Betanal Flow acts via the foliage and is applied after emergence of the weeds. The effect of spraying can be seen within 2 to 3 days following application and susceptible weeds are completely killed within 10 days. Betanal Flow is a member of the carbamate group (Group C) of herbicides providing diverse sites of action.

Question | Answer |
---|---|
1 Which weeds are controlled by Betanal? | Betanal will provide control of the following 30 weeds: Fat hen, chickweed, potato weed, pigweed, common thornapple, bitter cress, bellvine, penny cress, corn spurry, alkanet, wild raddish, common groundsel, charlock, common sowthistle, shepherd's purse, dead nettle, dwarf nettle, common fumitory, redshank, green amaranth, bindweed, persicaria (tas. Redshank), winter grass and blackberry nightshade. In beet crops only, Betanal provides additional control of barley grass, summer grass, prairie grass, cleavers, wireweed and wintergrass. |
2 Can Betanal be tank mixed with other herbicides? | Betanal cannot be mixed with herbicides other than Tramat® 500SC as results have shown antagonistic effects between herbicides and damage control. |
3 At what leaf stage should I use Betanal? | For successful outcomes, Betanal should be applied to susceptible weeds at 2-4 leaf stage with a fine spray using 250 to 300 L water/ha. Do not apply Betanal to strawberries from commencement or flowering or during fruiting. For further information, please refer to the product label. |
4 At label rates, will I get any soil residual weed control effect? | No. Betanal is a contract herbicide; level of control is determined by what is contacted at the time of application. |
5 If using Betanal on its own is causing filter blockages during spraying, should I tank-mix Tramat with Betanal to avoid the problem? | Betanal on its own has a history of causing filter blockage problems, however it is widely recognised that the addition of Tramat will alleviate the problem. |
6 What else do I need to keep in mind when applying Betanal to my crop? | Betanal may not be applied to crops which are wet. Betanal may also not be applied if temperatre exceeds of is likely to exceed 30°C within the following 8 hours. Do not apply wetting agents. |
