Outdoor Opportunities 

You may be well suited to a career in agriculture that involves thriving on the land. There are plenty of outdoor opportunities in agriculture. 

If you love to grow things and get your hands dirty, becoming the next generation of farmers could be right for you. Farmers get to work for themselves, constantly learning new things and developing first-hand experience with how food is produced to feed the growing global population.

Another exciting outdoor role is that of an agronomist. Agronomists get to practice scientific techniques that help control weeds, insects and pests, soil health and fertility, plant breeding, crop rotation and irrigation. As an agronomist, you’ll get to assist farmers as their trusted advisor and play an integral part in producing quality food.

Research and Development

You have a passion for sustainability and solving problems, and could be great at one of many opportunities to work in agriculture in an office environment. 

Some roles include Ag Tech, marketing and journalism, sales, and agri-business, to name a few. 

If you’re a tech-whiz, agriculture could be an exciting industry for you. With precision agriculture, innovative digital farming technologies, the advancing use of drones, and much more, you can be involved in using detailed, localised data to make a difference.

Agribusiness is a certified degree at a number of top Australian universities. It allows you to combine studies in management, economics, market research and accounting and apply this to an agricultural context. If you’ve considered a degree in commerce or business but aren’t sure about a specific career, perhaps agribusiness is a step in the right direction.

Youth Ag Summit

The Youth Ag Summit (YAS) is a fantastic way to begin a journey into a career in agriculture. The YAS is a unique opportunity that connects and empowers the next generation of agricultural change-makers. As part of the summit, every two years 100 global young leaders aged 18 to 25 come together for networking, debates, skills training, and project development with an end goal to equip young people with the skills to take on humanity’s greatest challenges.
 
Past agvocates for the YAS have nothing but positive things to say about the experience. If you love networking and being part of a community, are great at leadership and passionate about speaking out about world issues, this experience could be for you.
