Concentrated pre-mixed
insecticide and fungicide
Hombre Ultra is a convenient and cost-effective pre-mix that combines the fungicide Raxil® – to control various smuts, including bunt - with the broad-spectrum insecticide Gaucho®, to provide long-lasting protection against the feeding damage caused by cereal aphids. That aphid control also reduces the spread of barley yellow dwarf virus, probably the most destructive cereal virus in the world. Additionally, due to the Gaucho component, Hombre Ultra will also control stored grain pests

1 What are the benefits of treating my seed? | Seed treatment provides the most targeted, (cost-) effective, practical and environmentally friendly approach to crop protection. Seed treatment may help minimise early up-front costs, since your crop is protected from the moment of sowing. It then keeps on protecting through the vital germination and early establishment stages. The active ingredient only covers the surface of each seed – so it's always located right where it's needed, and the total amount of chemicals used to protect your crop is dramatically reduced. Hombre Ultra fits well within any IPM strategy and allows for crop monitoring and timely foliar fungicide application. |
2 How does Hombre Ultra work on the seed? | Hombre Ultra works with a three phase action. First, the active ingredients quickly surround the seed after sowing, surrounding it with a “protective” halo. Second, the plant absorbs the active ingredients from the “protective” halo through the roots. Third, the insecticidal active ingredient is transported to the aerial parts of the plant and uniformly distributed in its tissues. Ingestion of the insecticide controls insects on the leaves and reduces the spread of BYDV. |
3 What are the benefits of using Hombre Ultra seed treatment? | Hombre Ultra fits within a conservation farming framework by allowing growers to shift away from the routine use of post-emergent insecticides. When Hombre Ultra is applied on the seed, the systemic nature of the product ensures that each individual plant is protected. Experience has shown that using Hombre Ultra can reduce or eliminate the need for a post-emergent insecticide. One of the most important consequences of reduced insecticide use is an increase in the population of beneficial species. Beneficial species assist with the control of pests in wheat, barley and oats. For more information, please refer to the product brochure. |
4 How do I apply Hombre Ultra? | Hombre Ultra can be applied neat (at 200 mL/100 kg seed). Good agitation and proper calibration of equipment before and during application is required. Thoroughly coat seeds and allow seed to dry before handling. If using container rinsings, do not exceed a total application volume of 600 mL/100 kg seed. |
5 How long after the application of Hombre Ultra can I store treated seed? | Seed is suitable to use for 12 months after treatment, providing it is stored correctly. Original seed quality will influence the longer term viability of the seed. |
6 How long does Hombre Ultra provide aphid control after sowing treated seed? | Hombre Ultra is registered for the prevention of feeding damage caused by wheat aphid and corn aphid for up to 8 weeks after sowing. Some trials have demonstrated a reduction in aphid populations out to 16 weeks after sowing. |
7 What is the advantage to my crop which Stress Shield™ may offer? | The insecticide in Hombre Ultra may have a positive effect on the plants' ability to manage stress, even if insects do not affect the crop at all. If an external stress (i.e. excessive heat, waterlogging, or drought stress) occurs, plants treated with Hombre are generally stronger, healthier and more able to cope with the stress. This side-effect has been dubbed Stress Shield™. For more information on Stress Shield, please contact Bayer Crop Science. |
8 Which safety precautions should I adhere to when treating seeds? | It is good agricultural practise to wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist (or equivalent clothing), elbow-length PVC gloves and goggles when preparing and applying seed treatment mixtures. Wash hands and all contaminated clothing after use. For more information on safety when using our products, please read the product label and material safety data sheet or contact Bayer Crop Science. |
