FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION | ANSWER: |
---|---|
What is the mode of action of Alion? | Alion is a Group 29 (O) Subgroup 2 herbicide. Alion is positioned as a barrier in the top layer of the soil forms and is taken up by germinating weeds. It effectively kills the weeds by inhibiting cellulose biosynthesis (CBI) in the meristem of germinating weed seeds. |
What situations is Alion registered for use in? | Alion is registered for use in almond and citrus orchards, vineyards, and along agricultural fencelines. |
Is Alion a pre-emergent or post-emergence herbicide? | Alion is a pre-emergent herbicide. It has limited activity on already emerged weeds. Alion must be tank mixed with a knockdown herbicide if weeds are present at the time of application. |
What is the length of residual control that Alion provides? | Alion offers long-term (6-10 months) control of a wide range of grass and broadleaf weeds, which varies with application rate and situation. |
Is there any leaching of Alion into the soil? | Alion is readily adsorbed to soil clay particles and, under normal conditions, does not leach into deeper soil layers. However, in water-logged soils, such clay particles may flow around and carry the active ingredient to the deeper layers. Alion is not recommended for application on soil with a gravel content greater than 20%, soils with open channels or cracks in the soil surface, and vineyards or orchards grown on soil classified as sand (>85% sand) as in these circumstances, it can move to deeper soil layers. |
What conditions are ideal for Alion to be incorporated into the soil? | Moisture is required to incorporate Alion into the soil and facilitate uptake by germinating seeds. Alion should be applied to either moist soils or dry soils where adequate rainfall or irrigation will occur within 4 weeks after application. Note that when applied to moist soil, a reduced level of control will be experienced unless followed by rainfall to complete the incorporation into the soil. |
