Scala® SC fungicide is a foliar fungicide that provides high-level preventive control of botrytis (Botrytis cinerea) including fungal strains resistant to dicarboxamides and benzimidazoles, in grapevines, strawberries and tolerant ornamental species plus yellow Sigatoka, leafspeckle and cordana leaf spot in bananas.
Scala fungicide has unique biochemical properties which allow it to penetrate the green tissue enabling the fungicide to control latent infections and is effective in a wide range of climatic conditions, making it an important, flexible addition to many spray programs.
Scala 600 SC replaces the original 400 SC formulation and the Siganex® brand (Bananas). Please refer to the new label for current application rates.
Effective across a broad range of conditions, making Scala an ideal early season spray.
No recorded impact to benefi cial insect species making it an ideal addition to IntegratedPest Management (IPM) programs.
Provides high-level control against diseases that can cause yield and quality losses |and result in extra work and costs during harvesting, packing and storage.
Translaminar protection to both sides of the leaf from disease by penetrating through the leaf tissue.

1 What effect does Scala, applied to grapevines, have on fermentation and quality of wine? | Residues of Scala in grape juice will have no adverse effect on fermentation in the winemaking process. The mode of action of Scala is to block the secretion of enzymes from the fungus that are essential for the breakdown of plant tissue. Laccase, one of the enzymes secreted by the botrytis fungus, will cause wine discolouration and tainting. Scala will impede the entry of laccase into grapes, therefore preventing the oxidation and other adverse effects that the presence of this enzyme can have on wine. |
2 What effect does water quality have on the performance of Scala? | Provided that the water used to apply Scala is relatively clean and free of soil and organic matter, the performance of Scala will not be affected. The pH of the water should be in the range of 6 to 9, so that degredation in the spray tank can be minimised. |
3 If it rains soon after application of Scala, will the application be effective? | Scala is rain fast after one hour. How effective Scala will be if rain occurs before one hour of drying time has elapsed will depend on the coverage of the target, relative humidity and the intensity of the rainfall. Rainfall intensity and drying duration being the key factors |
4 Is Scala harmful to beneficial insects? | At the registered rates, Scala is safe to bees, Typhlodromus dossei, Typhlodromus doreenae, Amblyseius victoriensis and has a low toxicity to earthworms. |
5 Can I spray Scala onto grapes after 80% capfall? | Yes, Scala has a 7 day withholding period in grapes (both wine and table-grapes) but, as export destinations may have different requirements, it is important to consult your winemaker or grape purchaser as to their required pre-harvest interval. |
